Projects in Taiwan
With over 170 years of history, Iberdrola is a global energy leader, the number one producer of wind power, and one of the world's biggest clean energy providers in terms of market capitalisation. We have brought the energy transition forward two decades to combat climate change and provide a clean, reliable and smart business model. Iberdrola Renewables is at the forefront of the development of the renewables industry through pioneering ideas, forward thinking and outstanding innovation.
Iberdrola is currently developing offshore wind projects in Taiwan through its project office in Taipei as part of its expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. Three project areas have been identified with potential capacity of approximately 6 gigawatts (GW). These areas are:
- Da-Chung-Bu - located 36 km offshore main island Taiwan in Taichung City and Changhua County waters;
- Guo-Feng - located 36 km offshore main island Taiwan in Changhua County and Penghu County waters;
- Ju-Dao - located 10 km offshore main Penghu Island, Taiwan in Penghu County waters.
Iberdrola is planning to enter Taiwan's Offshore Wind Zonal Development Round. This will consist of three competitive auctions, each allocating 3 GW of capacity to projects of up to 500 MW in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Iberdrola is currently preparing to enter sites within the identified project areas into these auctions, whilst also identifying long-term opportunities for the project areas.
These projects will add to Iberdrola's 1,300 MW installed offshore wind capacity, and 2,600 MW under construction. Offshore wind projects are also being progressed and developed in the UK, United States, Germany, France, Sweden, Japan, Poland, Denmark and Ireland.
For two decades, Iberdrola has been leading the energy transition, acting as a key driving force in the transformation of industries, the green recovery of the economy and job creation. To this end, the company has launched a record investment plan of 150 billion euros over the next decade - 75 billion euros by 2025. These plans will allow the company to triple its renewable capacity and double network assets, maximizing the opportunities of the energy revolution being delivered in the world's major economies. Iberdrola's projects in Taiwan will be an important part of this plan.
Through the development of the projects in Taiwan, Iberdrola will work with the local supply chain and stakeholders e to foster a long-term, sustainable offshore wind industry. Iberdrola has a strong-track record of delivering benefits and investing in the countries it operates within and will continue to adopt this approach as it develops projects in Taiwan.
